Etelka Nyilasi, M.Mus.

Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, Etelka is a violinist, violist, fiddler and composer.

While she enjoys performing with chamber groups and orchestras, she also plays in a variety of styles besides Classical music, including Baroque, Cape Breton fiddle, Mediterranean/Latino, Turkish/Middle Eastern. She has a B. Mus. from Wilfrid Laurier University, and M. Mus. in Composition from the Birmingham Conservatoire, UK as well as a M. Mus. in Middle Eastern Violin performance from SOAS University of London.

Teaching has been a passion of hers for several years, and she took advantage of the Weingarten Scholarship in 2007 to study at the Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute in Kecskemét, Hungary.  Here she also discovered Colourstrings (a Kodály-based music kindergarten and instrumental teaching method used throughout Europe), and has enjoyed using it in her piano and strings teaching ever since, especially with young children. She continues to develop her teaching by attending courses and workshops whenever she can.

Etelka welcomes students of all ages, including adult beginners and adolescents.
